Charlotte's Recorded Music Wish List
Firstly, some general rules:
- I'm picky - if I link to a particular recording, then that's the one I want (unless I say otherwise). If I can't find a link to the recording I want, I'll make that clear, and give you as many details as possible about it. If I really don't care which recording I get, I'll say so. But...
- If I've not expressed a preference for a particular recording and you find a choice your preference should go to recordings by any of this lot.
Scholl Recordings
Just a few to be going on with. Sadly (for everyone else) I've now got almost all Scholl recordings easily available. A complete discography is available on the
Andreas Scholl Society website - I've got many, but not all, of these. One day I'll get around to transferring a complete 'wanted' list to these pages.....
- Bairstow Blessed City, Heav'nly Salem on
The English Anthem Vol. 1
- Lassus Requiem a 5 (not the four voice one which is more common). I've already got the Ensemble Pro Cantione Antiqua recording, so don't need a second copy of that. I'm looking for a better recording if anyone can find another one.
- 'Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis' series - Priory Records, about 20 discs. I already have the Norwich Cathedral
recording.
- 'Te Deum and Jubilate' series - Priory Records, about 20 discs. I already have the Norwich Cathedral recording.
- Wesley (Samuel Sebastian) anthems, recorded by Worcester Cathedral Choir Volume 1 and
Volume 2 (both out of stock on Amazon.co.uk)
- J.S. Bach 'Komm, Jesu, komm' - Good luck finding a recording - I'm sure there must be at least one out there, but I haven't found it yet.
- W.A. Mozart Requiem (K. 626) Amazing as it may seem, I don't actually have this on CD. There are so many recordings available that it's hard to specify one. Westminster Cathedral (1998) might be okay, or there's a 2004 recording under Niklaus Harnoncourt which has had very good reviews and seems to have a good collection of soloists. I'm looking for a 'modern' interpretation - small forces, soloists known for their repertoire rather than their 'name', rather than the big, romantic 'choral society' type recordings.
- Andreas Scholl (countertenor)
-
- Maria Christina Kiehr (soprano)
- Jean Rigby (soprano/mezzo)
- Bernada Fink (alto - my one exception to the countertenors rule!)
- Ian Bostridge (tenor)
- Michael George (bass)
- New College, Oxford
- King's College, Cambridge
- St John's College, Cambridge
- Salisbury Cathedral Choir
- Wells Cathedral Choir
- The Sixteen
- The Cardinall's Musick
- Tallis Scholars
- The Hilliard Ensemble
- St. Bride's
- The King's Consort
- Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment
If you can't find any of these, always try to find a choir using
countertenors, rather than female altos.
